Reminiscences of Samael Castillo

About two years ago I heard about the Knowledge River program. It sounded  very interesting, but at the same time something that I didn't think I could accomplish. I decided to give it a try after talking to a few graduates and to the manager of the program, all who encouraged me to go through the program. After submitting my application, sometime later, I found out I was accepted. I was happy but very nervous.

When the program started, I was still very nervous and was very unsure about everything. I quickly realized how much support the program offered for me. If I had questions I could easily turn to others in the program who I could relate to. I learned a whole lot from many of the classes and opportunities the program offered me.

I am now just a step away from graduating. The program went very quick. When I started I wasn't sure what type of librarian I wanted to be. I was even unsure of where my skills could be most used. Because this program offered me a chance to work at a Public Library, I quickly learned that this was exactly what I enjoyed and wanted to do. Because of my language skills and my cultural background, I know this is where I can make the most of my career helping my community.
